Gang Awareness
As larger city police departments gear up to battle street
gang activity, the smaller departments see a rise in the gang
activity in their own cities. Such has been the case for cities
in the southern portion of Tarrant County lately. Although
the Everman P.D. has initiated the Zero Gang Tolerance Policy
and we try our best to stop and identify obvious gang related
persons, we cannot be everywhere at once.
As Chief of Police, I adopted "See it, hear it, report
it" as our slogan a few years ago. We need your help
in emphasizing this slogan. If you see or hear something that
you think may be gang related, we are asking that you report
it to the police. We cannot allow these people to come into
our community and destroy the "hometown" atmosphere
that we currently enjoy. It takes all of us, working together
to let these gang members know that we will not welcome them
here!
Part of the insanity of increased gang activity is their
need to "mark their territory", much like a dog
feels that need. Their lack of social development results
in their lack of respect for the property of others and the
need to paint or otherwise mark their property.
City Ordinance #473 requires the owner of any property that
has graffiti on it to remove said graffiti if it is visible
from public or private property, other than the property on
which the graffiti exists.
To assist your police department in knowing which gangs are
in the area and which neighborhoods they are most prevalent
in, if you become the victim of graffiti on your property,
please call 817-293-2923 before cleaning it and allow an officer
to come by and take pictures of it. Any person or persons
found to be painting gang graffiti will be arrested and charged
with Organized Criminal Activity.
